The Department of Myanmar, of formerly as the Mandalar College, was founded 1 December 2012. The Head of the Department was Daw Cho Cho Win, Lecturer. The staff strengths were only four. Myanmar was taught to Myanmar specialization students, as well as a compulsory subject to other specializations students attending the college. In 2014 the number of staff strengths increased to eight. The new head of the department was Daw Khin Hnin Aung, who served starting from September 2015, and was transferred in May 2016, and the position of head of department was filled by Daw Cho Cho Win till November 2016. Dr Hla Myo Myat served as the head of department from December 2016 to January 2017.  The present professor and head of department is Dr Nyo Nyo Aung.
