The department of English, Mandalar Degree College  was founded on 1^st December, 2012. Students can study English for academic purposes at Mandalar Degree College. The department of English is teaching students  different genres of literature, theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics and the use of the English language in real contexts. The department of English is also responsible for teaching students of arts and science specializations and students of Tourism Management and Hospitality English for foundation courses. Staff of English department are training English specialization students to actively participate in extra-curricular activities, such as sport competition and other skill competitions.  Teaching staff of English department  are training students to be able to participate in English language skills competition. The department of English is currently teaching undergraduate students as well as post graduate students at Mandalar Degree College. Teaching staff are good at teaching and keen on doing researches. Teaching staff use a vriety of teaching methods to teach students four language skills. Moreover, a variety of classroom activities such as group work, pair work and role play are used to make teaching English more interesting and lively. Scholars are often invited to hold workshops and seminars to upgrade the capacity of teaching staff and students. Some teaching staff were sent to attend workshops and seminars held in Myanmar as well as abroad. Some senior teachers were sent to attend  tourism trainings in Thailand, Indonesia and Macao. The department of English has produced Bachelor degree holders of the first batch of Mandalar Degree College in December 2016.  The department of English is trying to produce competent and proficient graduates who are able to satisfy the needs of society.
