Background History

Department of Botany was established in 2012 for Bachelor of Science courses at Mandalar College. Dr Hnin Yu Lwin (2012-2014) Assistant lecturer was appointed as the head of botany department. After that, Dr Zan Zan Win, Lecturer, (2014-2015) was appointed as the head of the department. And then, Daw Chaw Su Nandar, Lecturer, from October to December, 2015 was appointed as the head of the department. After that, Daw Cho Cho Myint, Lecturer, (2015-2016) was also appointed as the head of the department. In 2016, Mandalar College was promoted to Mandalar Degree College. Dr Nyint Nyint San was appointed as professor and head of botany department. Mandalar Degree College was upgraded to Mandalar University opened on (1-9-2020). And Then, Dr Ohn Maung, professor, Dr Thidar Hlaing, professor and Dr Sandar Tun, professor (2020-2025) were appointed as head of botany department. At the present, professor Dr Thu Zar Aung is taking as the head of botany department.

Mission

Our mission is to provide updated curriculum, to conduct high-quality research in areas such as plant biology, ecology, biotechnology and environmental conservation and to train students in laboratory techniques, field work, analytical skills, and critical thinking.
