The Department of Myanmar, or formerly as the Mandalar College, was founded 1 December 2012. The Head of the Department was Daw Cho Cho Win, Lecturer. The staff strengths were only four. Myanmar was taught to Myanmar specialization students, as well as a compulsory subject to other specializations students attending the college. In 2014 the number of staff strengths increased to eight. The new head of the department was Daw Khin Hnin Aung, who served to start from September 2015 and was transferred in May 2016, and the position of head of the department was filled by Daw Cho Cho Win till November 2016. Dr. Hla Myo Myat served as the head of the department from December 2016 to January 2017.Dr. Nyo Nyo Aung is the present Professor and the head of the department.

To promote the culture of Myanmar through the Myanmar language and literature

To help appreciate prose, poetry, the novel and drama and other genres of Myanmar literature
To inculcate the love of Myanmar customs and culture
To abide by the values and norms of Myanmar society
